If covered before my arrival--sorry...just direct me to the old posts. However, I am curious as to what folks think of the following flicks from 'my' era:

Festival Express & Anthem to Beauty.

If you haven't seen them, I recommend them for a glimpse into the early days, both with respect to the studio and life on the road.

Hey William Tell: I liked the "Festival Express" for a historical perspective. Lots of memories prior to 2000 have melted together, so does the "Last Waltz" fall into your category? - AshesRising

Hey Ashes--liked it okay (Last...), but the Band members put me off...like their attitude better in early days...? Maybe I was just 'anti-late 70s' or something.

You know, I have seen a lot of em, and I agree with you completely. I've always downplayed it cause folks think I am just too Dead to be objective...

You can often see Festival for rent these days...not sure about renting the other.

Jerry really is the star of Express; great to see him with Janis, etc.

Hey Dire- maybe someone will make you a copy. Speaking of which, got your cds today! Thanks. Bach and Jane's Addiction in the same box- must of been some sparring going in there for sure. Look forward to hearing Jane and my daughter to Bach. She thanks you as well. Insurance- I'm surprised for some reason. You better watch out, you may give the field a good name!

glad the package made it in one piece my friend. you are right - Jane's and Bach should have virtually created nuclear fusion in the same package - never thought of that - lol.
hope you and your wonderful girl like the stuff man - glad to send it. peace :)

i LOVED festival express when i watched it a few weeks ago...

(and as a recent transplant to montreal, i appreciated the canadian aspect)

first of all, as someone pointed out, garcia really is the star of the film (and by extension, i assume, the tour). he strikes me as the biggest "musician's musician", or most talented, or whatever (you know what i mean? not sure if that was too clear).

it was interesting to watch some footage in the extras, where he gets pretty pissed of while he's talking about the music biz.
which leads me to a young bobby weir's wonderful THRASHING of a hippie chick who was trying to defend the toronto gate crashers/protesters. i really enjoyed that.

a wonderful scene featured a super drunk rick danko, garcia and joplin (a bit of flirting there??) singing aint no more cane.

Flirting? Garcia had his nose so far up Janis' ass you could hardly see his beard. (Note to Dire, this is a figurative take, not the Grateful Porn you would be hoping for.)

Here's a clip for the forlorn.

Jorga Fox...flawed, but intriguing, sometimes very plain Jane and sometimes hot as a pistol. I'm with ya there. Didn't mean to suggest you were any kind of pervert. Maybe just some kind.

"Jorga Fox...flawed, but intriguing, sometimes very plain Jane and sometimes hot as a pistol."

Now that is about as perfectly as someone could put it. nicely said. i don't know what it is about her, but, man, she just does something for me as far as a tv star goes. you absolutely nailed the description!! maybe that is a big part of her allure :) and man, does she have allure (for me) - even my girlfriend calls me over to the tv when Fox is on with a comment like "your true love is on" - at least she has a sense of humor :)

Man Danko sure seems wasted. Not that the others are sober, but...
